An opportunity I'm happy I didn't pass on!

The International Pageant System – An opportunity I’m happy I didn’t pass on!

Hello, Everyone! In my last blog post, I shared a message with you about the importance of combining the abilities we have with the opportunities around us, in an effort to reach our fullest potential and to be the best versions of ourselves. In this blog, I’d like to elaborate on that message by sharing with you an opportunity that I’m happy I didn’t pass on; The International Pageant System.

Exactly 1-year ago, I was approached by the Directors of the North Dakota International Pageant System and presented with the opportunity to participate in the 2016 ND International Pageant, which was only 3-months away. Having no pageant experience, other than being a judge for 1 other pageant, watching an occasional pageant on television and the dozen or so times that I’ve watched Miss. Congeniality, I wasn’t completely familiar with the pageant world, and I will admit that I even had some misconceptions of what pageants were all about. Because of that, my initial reaction was to say no thank you to the opportunity. However, after I thought about it for a few days and did some research on the International Pageant System, I absolutely fell in love with everything that it stood for, so I began to consider the opportunity.

The mission of the International Pageant System is to ‘make a difference’. The system was developed to support and empower married women, young women and teens by showcasing their accomplishments and their commitment to family and marriage. They are also a platform-based system, which means that they focus heavily on character and on the work that we do. Each participant represents a cause or organization that they spend their time promoting and bringing awareness to throughout the year. They look for women who are usually philanthropic-minded and find it important to make a difference within their communities and within the World as a whole; hence the International component. One last thing that I find to be very special about this system is their commitment to their faith and their belief in God. When I truly began to understand the overall vision and the values of the International Pageant System, and when I started breaking down some of those hesitations and misunderstandings that I initially had, participating seemed like the only natural choice to make, as everything they stand for are all things that I too believe in and am very passionate about and committed to.

With that in mind, I began to look at the abilities and gifts in which God has provided to me. From my commitment to supporting and empowering women and young ladies, to my passion of making a difference in the world, and even my devotion to growing in my faith and living my life through His word, this opportunity seemed to only highlight my abilities and my gifts. It seemed to be another great way for me to make the most out of my abilities and to reach my fullest potential by being the best version of myself. As you already know the end of the story, you know that I, in fact, chose to say YES! Not knowing what would come of the experience, I simply chose to be my best self by combining my abilities with an opportunity.

In closing, I leave you with this; Whatever abilities and gifts you’ve been blessed with, I urge each and every one of you reading this to commit each and every day of your life to reaching your fullest potential and to being the best version of yourself by simply combining your abilities and your gifts with the opportunities around you. You’re not going to know for sure what the outcome of that opportunity is going to be, but that’s not the important part. The important part is that you’re contributing your abilities and your gifts to the world; and therefore, fulfilling your Purpose!

Until next time, continue to lead by example and make a difference!

BBQ Judging

Hello! I am so excited to tell you all about a super cool appearance I did!
As I have shared before, I am attending North Dakota State University and one morning while I was leaving class, my professor asked me if Miss North Dakota International would come to an event and be a judge- I of course said yes and to just email me the details! Little did I know what I had really signed up for!
To spare you the anticipation, I got to judge the North Dakota BBQ contest! How cool is that! Who wouldn’t want to eat BBQ all day long! I was pretty stoked about the opportunity!
There were about 20 other judges besides myself and about 30 or so groups of Barbequers that grilled up chicken, pulled pork, ribs, and brisket for the contest. You may ask how this was possible and we truly couldn’t take more than a bite or two of each sample in order to last till the last category! We judged each category by its look (presentation), its taste, and the tenderness of the meat. All very important aspects to a good tasting meal! Let me tell you, I had BBQ sauce all over my face, learned a lot about grilling meat, and got to take home any left over’s I wanted! I was eating ribs for a week straight!
After all the judging was done and the scores were being tallied, I walked around the campers where the barbequers and their families had been cooking since the night before preparing for the days contest! We took lots of pictures! Quickly the award ceremony came up and I got to pass out the awards/money and the GIANT grand champion trophy to the three time winner- Pigtamers BBQ! What an honor it was to be a part of such a fun and family oriented event here in Fargo! I am so proud of everyone that contributed their time and the Barbequing skills to such a fun event! I had an absolute blast! I can’t wait to go back next year!
Thanks again everyone for reading about one of my favorite events so far!

Abilities and Opportunities

Mrs. North Dakota International 2016 – Ashley Rae Klinger

Tis’ that time of year again! We’re heading into the Fallseason, which means it’s Back-to-School! I might not be one of the individuals heading back to the classroom, however, I can’t help but to reflect WAY back on my school days. Yes, WAY back! ;)

Back then, life was very different, yet in many ways, it was very similar. It was different in the sense that back in those days, I was still trying to figure out WHO I was, WHO I wanted to be and WHO I lived for. Where today, I whole-heartedly know the answers to those questions. I’m no longer trying to make sense of that part of my life. Yet, it’s similar in the sense that just like back then, today I still can’t predict the future. AlthoughI might know WHO I am, WHO I want to be, and WHO I live for now, I still don’t know what the future looks like or what it has in store for me. However, unlike back then, today I’m comfortable knowing that it’s not my job to figure it out. I’m simply meant to trust in the plan that God has for me, and to trust in tomorrow, because He’s already there.

Now, with that being said, I can’t just sit back and expect my life to take shape on it’s own. Even though He has an ultimate plan for my life, it isn’t just going to happen. Because I’m apart of the plan He has for me, I’m the one who has to act on that plan. I still have to do my part to reach my fullest potential and to fulfill my purpose.

So, how do I take action if I don’t know, nor even understand at times, what the ultimate plan is? Well, there are a number of different ways, but one simple way is through abilities and opportunities. God provides each of us with many different abilities, also known as gifts, and it’s up to each of us to make the most out of those abilities/gifts by combining them with the many different opportunities around us, which are also provided for us by Him. It’s important to remember that some of those abilities and opportunities might not be as transparent as others, but they’re there, and through them His ultimate plan for our life will be fulfilled. It’s simply up to each of us to open up our hearts to Him and to trust in the plan that He has for us. We might not always see it, nor will we always understand it, but the good news is, that’s not our job.Our job is to simply recognize and appreciate our abilities/gifts and opportunities, and to seek comfort in knowing that although only He has all the answers, His plan will eventually be revealed if we devote our lives to combining our abilities/gifts and opportunities and making the most out of what He provides.
