Preparing for State…the Do’s and Do-Not’s!

With the North Dakota International Pageant right around the corner, it is important to be the most prepared you can be!  This time last year, I was in FULL preparation mode!  Here are some tips and items that you need to make sure get taken care of before the big weekend.  Remember, doing these all in a timely manner will help ease your mind and reduce stress, after all the pageant is just over six weeks away!

1.     Pageant Coach!  What is this you may ask?!  A pageant coach is someone who focuses solely on getting you read for your busy weekend.  From interview to the stage they are masters in their domain.  Having a pageant coach was THE BEST decision I ever made.  Not only did they make me stand out from the competition but also they boosted my self-esteem and confidence for the stage.
2.     Paperwork: As we all know there is required paperwork that needs to be completed for the pageant.  This paperwork is what the judges will see and base their private interview off.  Make sure to spend time on this!  Find things to discuss that are unique to you and your platform.  Have someone, or multiple people proof-read as well.   Last but not least, have someone who has experience in graphic design help design your ad page and platform page.  Remember YOU want to stand out from everyone else!
3.     Wardrobe: Be looking on point the entire weekend!  Your wardrobe should reflect your personality and be tasteful at the same time.  With every division there are different expectations.  Some good rules of thumb would be to look at past queens in the division you will be competing in to get ideas, pinterest, and a pageant coach!  Don’t try to be someone else!  Judges love to see everyone’s individual style and how they carry themselves.
4.     Fitness: In the International system, we have fitness wear which is great!  What’s even greater is that you don’t have to be a certain size to wear it.  Be mindful of your health these coming weeks leading up to pageant weekend.  Are you leading a healthy lifestyle (nutrition and fitness)?  Are you setting a good example of what healthy is?  Remember “healthy” is not a size!
5.     Practice!!!!!!!!!! I cannot stress this enough!  From mock interviews to stage walking, practice, practice, practice!  The more you are prepared, the less stress you will be and the more natural it will all come to you.  Have your friends and family record you; use a pageant coach, etc.  It does not hurt to have too much practice.

I hope I have left you all with some good information to get to where you need to be.  If you have any questions, please reach out to me.  Good luck in your journey to the crown!
