Meet Miss Junior Teen North Dakota International 2017
I am SO excited to be representing North Dakota this
year! I still need to pinch myself that it really was MY name that was called
just a few short weeks ago. Winning the state title was truly a dream come true
for me!
Here are a few things about me:
I am a 3rd grader at an awesome school in
Bismarck, ND. I LOVE school! I recently took a big reading test and when I got
the results, it showed I read at an 11th grade level – and I’m only
9! I couldn’t believe it! My favorite subjects in school are
reading and math. I love writing too, so if my blogs are a little long, I’m
sorry! :)
For a long time, I had been asking my mom and dad for a
cat. My dad was the tough one to convince. So,
to see if I was really serious about wanting a cat (and then taking care of
it!), he created a 6 month contract that I needed to follow. The contract was 4
pages long and I had to do everything on it for 6 MONTHS! And I did! All my hard work totally paid off and
now we have an adorable, white fuzz-ball named Cici Couture living in our
home! And better yet, I got to
choose her! We ended up getting her from a friend who had 5 kittens. So, I chose
the one who liked me best, and CiCi totally knows she’s my cat. I love her SO
much!
Another interesting thing about me is that I illustrated
a children’s book called “Don’t Be Sad, Sad Sally.” The book is all about the author, my
aunt Sally, when she was a kid and how she always looked over her fence at her
neighbor and wanted what her neighbor had. The book also talks about how Sally’s
dad helped her realize the good things in life, and that her life wasn’t really
all that bad. He also taught her
how to be grateful and thankful for the things she has. I started illustrating
the book when I was 7 and it was published when I was 8. Now I’m 9, and people
still talk to me about my book and how special it is, and I think that’s pretty
cool.
I am also a competitive dancer. My dance team has won
many local and regional competitions – typically getting 1st or
2nd place! We work really hard and are all super proud of how well we
dance together. This year, I also have 2 solos that I will compete with. They
are to the songs “If My Friends Could See Me Now (musical theatre) and “Better
When I’m Dancin’” (jazz.) I have
been dancing since I was 3 years old and I still think it’s really
fun!
I love sewing! Sewing is something I think everyone
should learn to do, because say you’re at a dance competition and you find out
your costume is broken. What do you do? DON’T PANIC AND SEW IT BACK TOGETHER! I
learned how to sew from 2 amazing seamstresses – my grandma and my aunt who can
sew just about anything! I love sewing doll clothes, pillow cases, pajamas,
embroidering and cross-stitching. I
think sewing is a great way to pass time and if I ever get good enough, I plan
to make my own pageant dresses!
When I grow up, I want to be a surgeon. I had to have my
tonsils and adenoids removed when I was 4 years old. I was very scared, but I
had an amazing doctor who make took great care of me. My doctor inspired me to become a doctor
someday, so that I can give back by helping others and assure kids that
everything is going to be ok!
Thanks for reading my first blog and getting to know a
little bit more about me. Like I said before, this would be long, so I am
impressed if you read the entire thing! :)
I look forward to serving North Dakota this year and
meeting you along the way!
ALWAYS CHOOSE HAPPINESS,
Alexis Thompson
